Dentures

Dentures are removable custom made replacements for missing teeth.

Full dentures replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaws. They are generally made of lightweight acrylic and are made to replicate the natural appearance of, and to restore the function of lost teeth. They can also help to fill out the soft tissues of the cheek and lips affected by tooth loss.

Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth on the upper or lower jaw. The remaining healthy teeth are used to support the denture. Like full dentures, partial dentures are made to improve both appearance and function.

Partial dentures can be made of acrylic, similar to full dentures, with metal clasps to help fit and retention. They can also be made on a cast cobalt chrome framework. These metal partial dentures are thinner and stronger than acrylic dentures. Flexible partial dentures can be made without clasps and can be useful to replace one or two missing teeth.

Our dentures are all custom made by a local dental laboratory.

Do you do denture relines?

Yes. An existing full denture can become loose due to changes in the jaw bone over time. If otherwise satisfactory in appearance and not worn down, the fitting surface can be relined to improve fit and extend the life of the denture.

Do I have to be without teeth while the denture is made?

No. If teeth need to be extracted, an immediate denture can be made. An immediate denture involves the construction of the denture before the teeth are removed. At the final appointment the teeth are extracted and the denture fitted. This is particularly useful when front teeth need to be replaced. The denture will often need relining in the future.
