Teeth Whitening

Tooth whitening is a simple, safe, and effective way to brighten your smile, or to improve the appearance of discoloured teeth.

Some people are born with more yellow looking teeth, some become more yellow with age. Coffee, tea, red wine, and smoking can also contribute to discolouration over time. This tooth discolouration can be reversed through whitening. It is commonly referred to as bleaching, as the active ingredient used is peroxide.

Take home whitening involves taking impressions of the upper and lower teeth to make custom fitting trays. The trays are then used to apply the peroxide gel to the outside surface of the teeth. The trays are worn for 30 minutes a day, for two to three weeks.

As it is a gradual process, you have control over how much lighter the teeth will become. If cared for, the trays should last for many years, and top up kits can be used to maintain the improved shade.

Tooth whitening will not improve the shade of existing crowns, or fillings, and some people may experience some sensitivity.
